Biography
Brechtje Meijer
Her passion for acting began in classic theatre, particularly Shakespearean productions, where she first discovered the emotional power and discipline of performance. In 2024, she began formal training at both Toneelmeester Amsterdam and Theatre School Utrecht. There, she developed a distinctive combination of skills, training in the Meisner Technique, improvisation, and the Chubbuck method.
While still in training, Brechtje built a strong on-screen portfolio through various film performances. A notable early role was in Nachtrood (2024), directed by Djessy van Ballegooij, where she portrayed a lesbian vampire navigating themes of identity and trauma. In the same year, Brechtje’s short film ‘Where is my sex drive?’ directed by Nina Broers, won an award for Best Short Film at the Go Short Film Festival.
Her recent screen credits include Between My Shoulders (2025), directed by Josje Volkers, and Pressure Point (2025), directed by Tim Tiebes. She has also appeared in national advertising campaigns, including spots for the Dutch government under the direction of Roel Boorsma.
Currently, Brechtje stars in the TV series Armoedzaaiers, playing Fleur – an emotionally layered character caught between moral dilemmas and a handsome young man. In the pilot episode, she works with actress Margien van Doesen and with Liam O’Callaghan to deliver her best performance yet.
With a relentless work ethic and a boundless creative spirit, she brings depth and authenticity to every role she embodies. Her commitment to excellence and her ability to connect with audiences have made her a standout performer in the industry, and she continues to pursue her craft with unwavering enthusiasm and determination.
After establishing a strong foundation in the Dutch creative scene, Brechtje is now setting her sights on the international stage. With aspirations to collaborate on a global scale, she is eager to expand her artistic reach, explore cross-cultural storytelling, and contribute to projects that transcend language and borders. A big dreamer at heart, Brechtje approaches every opportunity with vision, courage, and the belief that her storytelling has the power to connect people across the world.

Brechtje recently won a price with her film ‘Where is my sex drive?’ (2024), dir. Nina Broers, at the Go Short Film Festival in Nijmegen.
Her most recent film, by the same director ‘Should’ve said yes more often’ (2025) received a special mention of the jury.
